Opened in 1956 in the traditional La Morería neighbourhood near the Palacio Real, this is both one of Madrid's oldest surviving flamenco tablaos and the only flamenco venue in the world holding a Michelin star.
Manuel del Rey, son of hotel-industry parents, opened Corral de la Morería on Calle Morería on 25 May 1956, initially pairing flamenco with a surprisingly haute-cuisine menu of caviar and lobster thermidor — an unusual combination for a tablao at the time that the venue has kept building on ever since. The guest list of performers reads like a history of flamenco itself: Paco de Lucía debuted his celebrated piece "Entre Dos Aguas" on this stage, and Camarón de la Isla — later one of flamenco's most revered singers — performed here at just 13 years old. It remains family-run today, guided by the founder's sons, with artistic direction under Blanca del Rey, herself a major figure in flamenco dance.
Since 2019, the venue's Corral de la Morería Restaurant — a separate, four-table space adjoining the main tablao, run by Basque chef David García — has held a Michelin star, making this the only flamenco venue anywhere in the world with that distinction. A second, larger dining space, the Tablao Restaurant, sits closer to the main stage for guests who want to combine dinner with the show itself rather than the more exclusive tasting-menu experience.
Two flamenco performances run most nights, featuring a resident company of dancers, singers and guitarists alongside guest artists who rotate through the programme. The atmosphere is more formal and reverential than a casual tapas-bar flamenco night — reviews consistently describe an elegant, dressed-up crowd and a sense of occasion, though some note that a show-only ticket without the full dining experience is a perfectly reasonable way to visit if the Michelin-starred tasting menu isn't the draw for you.
